It’s impossible to overstate the impact Nirvana had on rock music. Their album Nevermind completely altered the musical landscape by embracing a gritty garage band ethos that mercifully euthanized the late 80’s keyboard-heavy hair bands.
The bass line from “Lounge Act” opens the song and grinds its way through the simple changes, attacking the chords with accented passing and nonchord tones. The sound of Krist’s Gibson bass, with the neck through design, humbucker pickups, and Rotosound Roundwound strings, reminds me of piano wire being run through a guitar amp. Play with a pick, and pick hard.
