Right hand alternate picking

One of the most fundamental techniques for finger style bass playing is alternate picking.

Alternate picking is when you alternate between your 1st and 2nd fingers on your right hand while plucking.   The first thing you should try is playing the E string open in 1/8 notes alternating between 1st (i) and 2nd (m).  Use a metronome occasionally to check your progress.

I will be adding many more posts about right hand technique.

Here is a video by Scott Devine of www.scottsbasslessons.com   Great site, and a very good teacher.

This is from the John Pattitucci video from the early 90’s.  Also helpful.
